There was a time when schools focused solely on delivering academic lessons. Now we know that before children can do their best learning, they need to be in an environment where they feel emotionally safe and accepted so they can be themselves, freely ask questions, and share their unique perspectives. Research shows that a positive classroom climate leads to greater student engagement and growth.
At Sunnyvale School District, we integrate social emotional and cultural awareness curriculum into each classroom, cultivating a culture of respect and inclusion so every child can thrive. Combined with curricula that encourage group interaction and problem- solving approaches that help students communicate with one another constructively, we aim to help students to build skills that will help them in school and in life.
